Local help: the St. Louis directory for an Aid and Attendance file
Who files the claim for free, which VA office does what, and the aging agencies and hotlines that cover the hours the claim does not. Every number below was read on the office's own page.
This is a list, not a ranking, and nothing on it paid to be here. Each entry names the page it was checked against on September 12, 2026. Offices change numbers and hours; if a line here disagrees with the office's own page, the office's page wins, and we want to hear about it. This site is not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
1. Free claim filers
VA's rule is the reason to start here: the services an accredited VSO representative provides on your VA benefit claims are always free, while an accredited attorney or claims agent can charge fees.

- Missouri Veterans Commission, Veterans Service Program (state office)
- Phone (573) 522-1403. The program page says accredited Veterans Service Officers provide counseling and assistance to Veterans and their dependents throughout the state.
- VA's accredited representative search
- For a VSO from a veterans organization, an accredited agent or an attorney: find a representative on VA.gov. The appointment form for a VSO is VA Form 21-22.
- St. Louis County Veterans Program
- A county program with its own page on stlouiscountymo.gov. That page blocked our automated check on September 12, 2026, so this directory does not print its number. Open the page yourself for the current contact.
2. VA offices
- St. Louis VA Regional Benefit Office
- 9700 Page Ave., St. Louis, MO 63132, in the Charles F. Prevedel Building, 1st floor. VA's page says visitors are seen on a walk-in or appointment basis Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is one of the in-person doors for a pension form. Checked against the office page on VA.gov.
- VA benefits hotline
- 800-827-1000, listed on the claim status page and the regional office page. The status tool itself shows where a claim is in VA's review process.
- Pension Intake Center (mail)
- Department of Veterans Affairs, Pension Intake Center, PO Box 5365, Janesville, WI 53547-5365. From how to apply for a VA pension.
- VA Caregiver Support Line
- 1-855-260-3274, Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm Eastern, per caregiver.va.gov. The same number appears on VA St. Louis Health Care's caregiver page.
- Homemaker and Home Health Aide care
- VA-arranged aide hours for enrolled Veterans who meet the criteria. There is no public phone for it: VA says to talk with a VA social worker, and a copay may apply.
3. Aging agencies and in-home care doors
- Aging Ahead
- One of Missouri's Area Agencies on Aging, serving St. Louis, St. Charles, Franklin and Jefferson counties. Main line (800) 243-6060 on its about page. Its caregiver page gives (636) 207-0847 for caregiver support options.
- St. Louis Area Agency on Aging
- For residents of the City of St. Louis. Phone (314) 612-5918, weekdays 8am to 5pm, on the city aging services page.
- Missouri Senior Resource Line
- 1-800-235-5503. The state says callers are directed to their local Area Agency on Aging after entering a ZIP code. From Missouri DHSS.
- DSDS Call Center, Missouri in-home Medicaid services
- 866-835-3505, the number DHSS gives to request Medicaid in-home services on its three types of care in the home page. That page also describes private duty care, which needs no physician order for companion or respite care.
- Eldercare Locator
- 1-800-677-1116, the federal finder for local aging services, at eldercare.acl.gov.
- United Way 211
- Dial 211, or 1-800-427-4626, per 211helps.org.
4. If something is wrong
- Missouri Adult Abuse and Neglect Hotline
- 1-800-392-0210, seven days a week, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., per Missouri DHSS. Use it if an older adult was pressured to sign papers or hand over money.
Private-pay help at home
None of the offices above sends a person to sit with your father tonight. Non-medical in-home care is bought privately, and it can start while a claim is pending.
